KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged its highest ever daily Covid-19 caseload with 31,199 fresh infections today, bringing the cumulative total to 3,305,157, according to data from the CovidNow website.

The country also saw the most deaths this year today with 55 cases, upping the toll to 32,488. Of the new deaths, 23 are categorised as brought-in-dead.

Of the 1,804 new patients in the hospital, 621 (34.4%) are in categories 3, 4, and 5 while 65.6% of cases are in categories 1 and 2.

So far, a total of 7,725 patients remain hospitalised, while 114 are in intensive care and 191 are on ventilators.

Selangor continues to top the list of daily infections by states with 7,798 cases, followed by Sabah (3,971), Kedah (2,684), Penang (2,575), Johor (2,281), Kuala Lumpur (2,186), and Kelantan (2,135).

State with less than 2,000 cases are Negri Sembilan (1,998), Pahang (1,560), Perak (1,222), Terengganu (773), Melaka (600), Labuan (499), Sarawak (424), Perlis (304), and Putrajaya (189).

As for new deaths, Selangor again has the most cases with 10, followed by Sabah (nine), Johor (eight), Perak (seven), four each in Kedah, Melaka, and Pahang; three each in Penang and Kuala Lumpur; and one each in Kelantan, Negri Sembilan and Perlis.

There were no Covid-19 deaths in Sarawak, Terengganu, Putrajaya and Labuan.

Kelantan’s ICU bed usage is the highest at 83%, followed by Kuala Lumpur (65%), Johor (65%), Melaka (58%), and Perlis (55%).

The national infectivity rate average stands at 1.13 while the top five states recorded R-naught figures of 1.44 (Labuan), 1.31 (Sarawak), and 1.28 (Terengganu, Negri Sembilan and Perak). – The Vibes, February 24, 2022
